Hunters register win against Cutters by 14-point lead

first_imgHunters defeated Mackay Cutters 34-20 this evening at the BB Print Stadium, Mackay.Hunters scored two tries in the first half through Watson Boas and four tries in the second half through Wartovo Puara Jnr, Ishamel Baikawa, Adex Wera and Boas.Cutters wasted no time scoring four minutes into the game through Johnny Faletagoa’I to put the home team in front 4-0.Twenty minutes into the game, Stargroth Amean made a break through running 20 metres, setting up Watson Boas to score for Hunters. A conversion by skipper Noel Zeming took the score up 6-4.Cutters got back into the lead, scoring their second try 12 minutes to half time. A successful conversion from Liam Taylor took their score up 10-6.Terrible defence by Hunters gave the chance for an easy try for Cutters through Howard Brown 10 minutes to half time. A successful conversion increased the lead for the home team, 16-6.  With just 35 minutes into the first half, Maki scored for Hunters, taking the score up 16-12 at half time after a successful conversion by Zeming.Hunters were on fire in the second half, scoring four more tries.Puara showed good skill and speed to break through Cutters’ defence five minutes into the second half to level the score 16-16 after a successful conversion.Ten minutes later, Baikawa scores for the Hunters, slipping through Cutters’ defence to touch down right under the goal post, putting Hunters back in the lead 22-16 after a successful conversion.Boas scored his second 60 minutes into the game with a runaway try, followed by a successful conversion to put the Hunters in a 12-point lead, 28-16.Cutters scored again through Brenden Treston taking their score up 28-20.Hunters’ final try came from Wera two minutes to full time and a successful conversion extended the lead 34-20 at full time.last_img
